What happens when the man who shaped your entire life is also the man you spent decades trying to understand?
In Lessons From My Father, Dr. Trunnis Goggins II delivers a powerful, unfiltered memoir about legacy, masculinity, family, and truth. Through vivid storytelling and uncompromising honesty, he examines his complex relationship with a larger-than-life father-a man admired by many, feared by some, and deeply flawed in ways that left lasting marks on everyone around him.
Set against the cultural backdrop of Buffalo, New York, this memoir traces a life shaped by ambition, discipline, contradiction, and survival. It explores what it means to grow up under the shadow of a dominant father, to inherit both strength and damage, and to ultimately choose understanding over judgment. With reflections that span childhood, adulthood, fatherhood, and loss, Dr. Goggins confronts difficult truths about work ethic, loyalty, love, domestic violence, and the generational patterns we carry-often unknowingly.
This is not a story of absolution or condemnation. It is a story of reckoning.
Written with clarity, restraint, and emotional depth, Lessons From My Father speaks to anyone who has ever wrestled with their past, questioned their upbringing, or wondered how much of who they are was shaped by the people who raised them. It is a book for sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, leaders and learners-anyone seeking to understand how truth, however uncomfortable, can become the greatest inheritance of all.
