The Lap Steel Guitar is currently gaining popularity and crossing musical borders from it's traditional stomping grounds in folk, blues, and country music into rock and popular music. With a voice that can cover everything from graceful traditional melodies to the ripping, raw licks of blues and rock, the lap steel can be used in just about any musical style, bringing it's unique voice to the mix.Although not a difficult instrument to learn if you have some prior experience - with guitar, for example - the lap steel presents some unique challenges. Proper left- and right-hand technique is crucial to proper tone and intonation, and playing scales and melodies with a slide is a unique challenge. An amazing variety of chords can also be played on the C6 lap steel, using some tricks of the trade including behind-the-bar bends and bar slant techniques to hit the right notes when you need 'em. You'll learn to play everything from a sweet whisper to an amp-smoking roar. This eBook takes you from the very basics through more intermediate/advanced techniques, all supported with notation/tablature examples and audio files (MP3 examples). In addition to the basics of chord playing, chart reading, scales, licks, and techniques, there is a music theory primer aimed at the not-too-technically-minded player and a chapter on reading tablature, so you have everything you need, regardless of your experience level. Author Joe Dochtermann has published a variety of DVDs and books on guitar playing and home recording technique, and now brings you this 140 page eBook (matching DVDs on lap steel are available on his site) teaching you to play the C6 lap steel from the basics through playing six example pieces written and arranged just for this book.
