Traditionally, haiku was steeped in themes of nature. Fortunately, modern haiku has expanded to include a vast array of topics. In Lazarus Ego, it is amazing how three short, simple lines can be so visceral, contain such poignancy and insight, while at other times be infused with humor. Its clear that Nelson Pla carefully constructed his line breaks, which change the entire meaning, and are very thoughtprovoking. In this collection of haikus, watercolor paintings and essays, the reader is treated to a glimpse through the aperture of the innately creative mind of Pla. An astute observer of life and thehuman condition, Pla touches on philosophy, religion and the world of entertainment.
