Those suffering from mental illness and their supporters need to understand and access complex rules and programs. As a knowledgeable attorney cannot be called every time a question arises, this book provides a ready reference tool. The author, Baron Miller, is a practicing attorney in San Francisco. He has been dealing for decades with legal issues affecting persons with mental illness. With straightforward and comprehensible language he explains applicable laws and legal processes, and includes citations to laws for use by attorneys and all others who want a more in-depth knowledge of them. Both as a legal professional with expertise in the subject matter presented, and as a parent of an adult with schizophrenia, Mr. Miller has a thorough understanding of the effects of mental illness and of the needs of those connected to it. With that knowledge he has written a book that advances our ability to care for each other and for ourselves.
