When being close to God isn't the same as truly knowing Him, surrender becomes the doorway that changes everything.
Have you ever trusted God and still felt the need to stay in control? You pray, you worship, you serve, yet under the surface your heart is guarded, your mind is racing, and your peace feels fragile. This book is for the believer who loves God, but quietly fears what will happen if they really let go.
In Knowing God Through Surrender: The Breaking, Alyssa Hernandez invites you into the raw, holy place where faith collides with loss, questions, and the illusion of control. Through her personal journey as a mom walking her four-year-old son through a rare cancer diagnosis, she shares how God met her not in perfect faith, but in hospital rooms, sleepless nights, and whispered, unfinished prayers. With honesty and tenderness, she shows how surrender moved her from clinging to outcomes to knowing God in a deeper, more intimate way than she ever imagined.
Designed as a reflective, interactive book, each part weaves together story, Scripture, and guided questions, creating space for you to pause, journal, and invite God into your own breaking points. You'll explore themes like the illusion of control, hidden idols, unanswered questions, and what surrender actually produces in your heart. Along the way, biblical stories of Abraham, Hannah, and Jesus in Gethsemane reveal that surrender has always been God's invitation-not to lose everything, but to discover Who has been holding everything all along.
This book will help you:
• Identify where control, fear, or hidden idols may be blocking intimacy with God.
• Bring your honest questions, grief, and disappointment to God without shame.
• Learn to trust God with what you love most, even when outcomes are uncertain.
• Experience peace that doesn't make sense, strength that isn't your own, and a renewed identity rooted in His faithfulness.
• Use the reflection questions and notes pages to process your story with God in a deeply personal way.
If you are in a season where life has hit hard-a diagnosis, loss, betrayal, financial collapse, or a future you didn't plan-this book will sit with you there and gently point you back to the God who steps in when you finally let go. You don't have to surrender perfectly; you only have to be willing. In the breaking, you won't lose yourself.
You will find Him.
