This espionage thriller with a love twist, "Without Armor" also known as "Knight Without Armour," is a gem every bit as good as James Hilton's "Lost Horizon'' and "Random Harvest."
Marlowe, initially a journalist, is recruited by British intelligence due to his fluency in Russian. Sent to infiltrate revolutionary circles, he becomes disillusioned with the political machinations on all sides. When the revolution erupts, he rescues Alexandra, a Russian countess, who is fleeing for her life after the fall of her aristocratic family. The two embark on a perilous journey across war-torn Russia, facing constant danger from both the Bolsheviks and the White Army. The novel explores themes of loyalty, love, and survival in a world torn apart by ideology and violence. Hilton's nuanced characters and vivid depiction of revolutionary chaos make this a compelling tale of human resilience amidst upheaval.
