Four friends. 550 miles of untamed subarctic wilderness. And a river that was about to vanish forever.
Fifty years ago, before satellites, cellphones, and GPS, four adventurers stepped into the raw, unforgiving wild of Northern Quebec. They didn't just seek adventure-they stepped into history.
In this gripping, true narrative, join a 35-day epic canoe expedition into the subarctic wilderness taiga of Nunavik. Tracing a treacherous route first documented in 1896, these three men and one woman faced and survived a river so dangerous that even the local Naskapi and Innu First Nations people rarely ventured onto its rapids.
With rain battering them for 30 out of 35 days, the team faced relentless peril, isolation, and the ultimate test of human cooperation. Completely cut off from civilization, survival depended entirely on their ability to become a cohesive unit against the fury of nature.
But this wasn't just a test of endurance. It was a race against time. This expedition marks one of the last end-to-end journeys down the mighty Caniapiscau River from its source near Lac Chambeaux to its terminus at Inukshoktyok Point on Ungava Bay, before it was dammed and altered forever by a massive hydropower project.
