About
A Bridge to U.S. High School Chemistry is a bilingual (Chinese-English) study companion written for Chinese students who are about to take-or have just started-chemistry in a U.S. high school. Moving from a Chinese classroom into an all-English one is hard, and the obstacle is rarely the chemistry itself: it is having to cross a language barrier and a way-of-thinking barrier at the same time. This book is built to help with both.
Rather than piling up definitions to memorize, every chapter focuses on the why behind each idea-why atoms bond, why warming a reaction speeds it up, why blood keeps its pH steady. Core English terms are embedded right alongside the Chinese explanations and repeated until they stick, and generous footnotes unpack the Greek and Latin roots that finally make long chemistry words make sense. Each topic is rounded out with step-by-step worked examples (complete with reasoning and unit checks), end-of-chapter exercises written entirely in English, clean hand-drawn diagrams, and quick-reference appendices.
Fifteen chapters cover the full high-school sequence: matter and measurement; atomic structure and the periodic table; chemical bonding; formulas and naming; gases; the mole and stoichiometry; solutions and intermolecular forces; thermochemistry; reaction rates; equilibrium; acids and bases; oxidation-reduction and electrochemistry; the element families; organic chemistry; and laboratory skills. Content stays at the high-school level and is designed as the "learn" companion to the practice book Practice to Mastery: U.S. High School Chemistry-read a chapter here to understand it, then drill the same chapter there to master it.
Whether you are preparing to study abroad or already sitting in an English-language chemistry class, this bridge is here to help you learn with clarity and confidence.
