In 'My Grief Doesn't Look the Way You Think It Should', Edith Perlin presents a life shaped by hardship, neglect, and betrayal. From an early age, she endured a household marked by addiction, violence, and the absence of protection, learning that survival required silence and caution. The loss of safety at home and repeated experiences of abuse left enduring scars that carried into her adolescence, shaping her sense of self and the way she engaged with the world. As she grew older, Perlin faced repeated challenges that tested her resilience. Traumatic events continued to unfold, from neglect and exploitation to repeated violations of trust by those meant to care for her. In the face of these experiences, she began to understand the patterns of pain and survival, seeking ways to preserve her dignity and sense of identity even as the world around her offered little support. 'My Grief Doesn't Look the Way You Think It Should' is a story of endurance and quiet strength. It explores the complexities of trauma and the impact of betrayal while highlighting the courage required to face life with honesty. Perlin's journey invites readers to witness her survival, reflect on the systems that fail, and recognize the resilience that emerges when a person refuses to be defined by their suffering.
