About
Imperfect Utopia" combines elements of science fantasy, historical fiction, and political intrigue as two investigators, Nizaga who was made, not born and Rayba who was born not made, must solve a series of brutal murders and mysterious disappearances on historically crime free planet Aggra.
Aggrans mastered intergalactic travel over 500,000,000 years ago. They perfected the scientific creation of life thousands of years earlier. All native Aggrans are made by Sagrans, the scientists and engineers of Aggra, to serve a specific purpose. Like Nizaga, all native Aggrans are created, not born. All are fully sentient. and are awakened physically perfect and possessed of all knowledge and skills necessary to their function, whether Sagran scientists and engineers, Cagran communication specialists, or Pagran warrior-protectors. All are engineered as thinking, sentient beings whether they serve as armaments, buildings, tools, warriors, communicators, medical specialists or house servants. Everyone is created with internal restraints making it nearly impossible for them to break Aggran law which prohibits lying, stealing, or killing. Since they do not procreate, there is no need for gender differentiation. None are gender identified. The universal pronoun "sha" refers to any being.
Magrans, like Rayba, are a race of supernatural beings, not native to Aggra. Magrans reproduce biologically from sexual union and are gender differentiated, as are humans on planet Earth. They are not human, but their bodies are similar. War made their planet uninhabitable and forced the surviving Magrans to flee their native planet 600,000 years ago. Aggra accepted them provided they agreed to strict observance of Magran law. But many native Aggrans distrusted the Magrans' magical powers and especially feared the War Magi. Many Magrans struggled to accept strict Aggran law. Despite the escalating tensions, when both races were threatened by a deadly invasion from Planet PLX2005, the War Magi agreed to fight alongside the Pagran warriors to protect Aggra. Many War Magi, Magran healers, and Magran shape shifters who served as spies, died in the war, but their sacrifice helped defeat the invaders. For their service, the Magrans were awarded their own territory on Aggra and given their own Ministry.
However, the powerful War Magi, Sacra-Dibi, refused to aid the Pagrans. She and her rebels created a world of their own beneath Aggra's surface. They never accepted the rule of Aggra's Supreme Minister nor that of the Magran minister. At the same time, a group of refugees from PLX2005, most of whom had fled their native home before the war came to live on Aggra. The Aggrans offered them all the benefits of life on utopian Aggra, provided they also agreed to live by Aggran law. But they lacked the internal restraint of the native Aggrans.
As the Aggrans struggle to assimilate the different cultures now living on their planet, Aggran probes begin sending fascinating reports from planet Earth. Although geologically unstable and still forming, thousands of different species, many of them sentient, thrive on this planet, living in the air, under the water, and beneath the surface. Might they all have originated from other planets? How else to explain the rapid re-population of the planet after the great freeze? They speak hundreds of different languages, and the two-legged beings are violent, posing a challenge to colonization. But, if other planets have successfully colonized Earth, perhaps it can solve some of Aggra's problems.
The first book of the Aggran Chronicles introduces the ancient scientifically and technologically advanced civilization of Aggra and sets the stage for the remaining books in the saga.
