Have you ever wondered what inspired the words Jesus taught at His Sermon on the Mount? Was Jesus speaking only about things that would occur in the New Testament, or did He draw upon events found in the Old Testament? In Teachings on the Exodus Found in the Sermon on the Mount, Samuel Henry Jr. makes the case that the teachings of Jesus contained in the Sermon on the Mount draw upon event that occurred during the Israelites' exodus from Egypt, their journey through the wilderness, and entry into the Promised Land. Drawing upon clues evident in the parables and "sayings of old" referenced in the Sermon on the Mount, Henry points to events that align with the teachings in the sermon. Jesus taught the multitude about things that would have been known and understood by the Jews present who heard the inaugural teaching of Jesus (Ps. 78:2-4).
