He was always the last one picked. The smallest kid on the block. The one who couldn't hit a baseball, couldn't outrun his sister, couldn't seem to win at anything.
Until God had other plans.
The Story
How God Made His Story Possible is a Christian memoir and inspirational true story about growing up Black in the inner-city streets of Trenton, New Jersey - navigating a turbulent home life, a stuttering self-image, and a hunger to prove that ordinary kids can do extraordinary things when God is writing the chapters.
Fred D. Gore takes you through his early years in North Trenton - the neighborhood feuds, the borrowed trophies that didn't feel earned, the coaches who saw something in him before he saw it in himself - and onto the cinder tracks and cross-country courses where everything changed. What began as a kid who couldn't make a team became a story of a young man who ran his way to a Mercer County championship, a historic double victory at the prestigious Penn Relays, and a full college scholarship to Norfolk State College.
But this isn't just a sports memoir. It's a reflection on how God's timing, the Holy Spirit's guidance, and the quiet strength of a faith-filled community shaped every stride. From the Parker family's wall of trophies that gave him hope, to a coach's whispered prayer before a starting gun, to a newspaper front page that changed the way he saw himself - this is a story about overcoming adversity through faith, perseverance, and an unshakeable belief that your story is not finished.
Who It's For
This book is for the underdog who hasn't won yet. For the believer who wonders if God is paying attention. For the athlete, the dreamer, the inner-city kid, and anyone who has ever broken a trophy they didn't feel they deserved - and decided to go earn one for real.
With raw honesty, warmth, and hard-won wisdom, Fred Gore weaves together a coming-of-age memoir, a faith testimony, and a Black excellence story that will stay with you long after the last page.
