Full of atmosphere, rich in description and utterly compelling, this is Clare Francis at her very best.
It is 1947 and the harshest winter in Britain for a hundred years. Amid anti-Polish-refugee propaganda, Wladyslaw, a young Polish soldier, comes to work on Billy Snape's withy farm in the wetlands of Somerset. But just as the community begins to take Wladyslaw to its heart, he falls for the fiancé of a returning war hero. When death follows, it seems Wladyslaw must pay the price. Clare Francis is the author of eight international bestsellers, including Deceit, Betrayal, A Dark Devotion, Keep Me Close and A Death Divided. She has also written three non-fiction books about her voyages across the oceans of the world. She lives in London.
