Surely, slavery doesn't exist in the United States today. Right? Wrong.
Human trafficking exists everywhere. In small towns and big cities across the nation, victims are coerced or forced to live as slaves.
Chances are good, in fact, that it is happening right now in your hometown.
With estimated global profits of $150 billion, human trafficking is one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world. Even so, it's often called an invisible crime. Most of the time, no one notices the people who are in pain and danger as modern-day slaves. Heavy Traffic was written by two people who dared to notice the crisis of sex trafficking in their community. In this eye-opening and convicting book, Mel and Twyla Baggett share real-life stories of the women and men caught in sex slavery on the streets of Detroit. With a team of Night Angels, this husband-and-wife team met more than 7,000 sex-trafficking victims in a span of ten years. The Night Angels took food, hygiene kits, and hope into the darkest areas of the city and helped bring more than 600 people to freedom.Heavy Traffic sheds light on the dangers and warning signs of sex trafficking as well as often ignored truths about prostitution and pornography. Engaging, honest, and thought provoking, this book will make you more aware of some of the most vulnerable people in your community. Most importantly, it will challenge you to become part of the solution.
