A memoir-style novella of family history and long-kept secrets, sparked by a childhood ghost story and a name that didn't add up. Part detective story, part family reckoning, tracing the life a mother kept hidden across generations and continents.
The Ghost Had A Name. So Did The Secret.
His mother once told him he was named after a man she knew who died during World War II. Was it that man's ghost who peered into his crib in 1953? And why had he come back? His mother, now deceased, could provide no answers.
While working on an entirely different story, the author is confronted with information that casts doubt on the relationship he thought he had with his mother. The search that follows leads into her secret past, and her father's, uncovering a family intrigue kept from the sons for over seventy years, and a story of pain his mother would never divulge.
As the author remarked: "I always liked shows like Downton Abbey, but never knew how close my own family was to their storylines."
Half Brother Blues is a standalone novella, for readers who love family-secret memoirs, genealogical detective work and wartime family history. Perfect for fans of Dani Shapiro, Jeannette Walls and Kate Morton.
