About

GROW! A Helpful Guide to Practicing the Spiritual Disciplines meets a pressing need in the church for an up-to-date, popular-level handbook and teaching tool on the value of the spiritual disciplines and how to practice them. Churches are "houses of prayer," and all worthy teachers encourage Bible study, but how many Christians really know how to practice these disciplines well? What about fasting, solitude, and the discipline of simplicity? Some of the disciplines of a spiritual life our forefathers in the Faith took for granted have been neglected for far too long. As God's people, it is time we restores the practice of biblical spiritual disciplines, and we know we will be blessed if we do. This study includes chapters on study, prayer, fasting, simplicity, service, solitude, assembling, rejoicing, hospitality, enduring suffering, and separation from the world. The contributing authors encourage Bible class teachers who use this guide in their classes to take their time and not limit the study to just one quarter. That said, veteran teachers will be able to teach through this guide in 13 weeks without much trouble. Additionally, this book is well-suited for individual and small-group study, as a basis for a sermon series, and as a gift to new Christians to help them get started practicing the disciplines of the spiritual life.
