About

Ejiro is on his way to Lagos for the first time when he meets Chimamanda, a young doctor. The trip is ordinary at first, but as conversation flows and their guards drop, what begins as passing interest grows, quietly but quickly, into something neither of them plans for.

Then the journey breaks, as they find themselves pulled into a chain of events that will stretch from the quiet violence of a forest camp to the loud disorder of a nation reacting to itself. Alongside them are strangers-students, academics, families-bound together by circumstance and held in place by men whose violence is both personal and political.

But captivity is only one thread of a wider unraveling.

This is a story about a country negotiating itself under pressure-through politics, tradition, violence, and love-and the people caught in the spaces between those systems.

Paul is also the author of Red Sun Nightmare. A tale about a family's return to the motherland, systemic failure, and the unravelling of a country where ordinary citizens live with extraordinary fear.
