In this “field guide to finding silence,” a policymaker who taught meditation in the US Congress and a seasoned collaboration expert explore how to go beyond the ordinary rules and tools of mindfulness to help individuals, families, organizations, and whole societies dial down the noise and reclaim pristine quiet.
The world is louder than ever. It’s not just the noise in our ears, but also, the noise on our screens and in our heads. While mindfulness can help us cope with the onslaught, research shows that few people maintain a meditation practice over time. We need accessible and enduring ways of finding clarity and renewal.
Golden is a non-meditator’s guide to getting beyond the noise. It’s about how the answers to the most serious personal and societal challenges can be found somewhere unexpected: in the open space between the mental stuff.
Justin Zorn and Leigh Marz take us on an unlikely journey, from the West Wing of the White House to San Quentin’s death row; from Ivy League brain research laboratories to underground psychedelic circles; from the remote forests of Olympic National Park to the main stage at a heavy metal festival, to explore the meaning of silence and the art of finding it in any situation.
