Gig Night is a heartwarming, humorous, and candid memoir that lifts the curtain on the unsung world of local musicians-those who gig for the love of music, not the limelight.
From smoky London pubs and rowdy social clubs to makeshift stages and unforgettable mishaps, Bob Beckenham invites you into the backstage chaos, camaraderie, and sheer graft that fuel a musician's life on the circuit. Whether he's hauling gear up three flights of stairs, dodging drunks on a cramped dance floor, or sharing poignant tales of band breakups and breakthroughs, Bob delivers each memory with wit, warmth, and the wisdom of decades spent chasing the perfect gig.
More than just a memoir, Gig Night is a tribute to every unsung hero of live music-the cover bands, pub performers, jamming mates, and grassroots dreamers who keep the spirit of live music alive. With anecdotes spanning his childhood in 60s Notting Hill to festival gardens and encounters with legends, Bob reflects on a musical journey packed with laughter, bruises, broken strings, and undying passion.
If you've ever tapped your foot in a pub band's crowd, carried an amp into a van, or just love real stories from real musicians, this book is your backstage pass.
