Fury employs the power of mythology and Mexican magical realism to trace a twisted genealogical tree. Vicente Barrera's uncontrolled libido leaves a trail of offspring across his native soil. Lázaro and Juan, soldiers from opposing camps in an unnamed war, live out their tortured love in the desert, where Salvador, a mortuary assistant, loses his human form while following the ghost of his murdered childhood sweetheart. In the desert, destinies become intertwined and wounds bleed dry. Fury and desire find their way.
Clyo Mendoza's English-language debut is nothing less than a contemporary Pedro Páramo, the quintessential Mexican novel on love, death, and the power of myth to remedy what law cannot.
