Driving home at dusk on a high desert road, Dr. Kate Morgan gives a ride to a stranger, unaware he has been waiting for her, assigned to her from the reaches of another galaxy. She brings him to Bellingham, the isolated sanatorium where she does her research, hoping to treat the severe migraines that seem to wrack his whole body.
But gradually she becomes aware that her patient has powers beyond the science she has always believed in and trusted.
