Seeking God with action and purpose.Training your soul through the practices we see in the life of Jesus is much like training your heart through cardiovascular exercise. The more time you spend training your heart through exercise, the more quickly your body can return to a resting heart rate when you stop. Similarly, the more time you spend in the presence of God, the more quickly you will be able to return to your resting soul rate-the place where you slow down, listen well to God and others, and feel at peace. This is where you find yourself more open to receiving the love of God and giving it more freely. This accessible guide will help you do just that. The short chapters and practical applications help readers focus less on reading about Jesus and more on practicing the way of Jesus. Each chapter starts with the Bible, looking at what Jesus did, and introduces some of the best ways to apply those practices that others have studied, lived, and written about for the past two thousand years. Lessons take an intentionally slow pace, spanning two weeks in group life, to allow participants to lean more into applying the practices than reading and discussing them. For those who want to go deeper, additional recourses in various formats are provided with each practice. Follow Is a Verb is for believers who desire to live out their faith with freedom, joy, and purpose; for new Christians ready to try out the way of Jesus; and for churches full of attendees who desire to become disciples.
"When it comes to spiritual formation, most of us need practical guidance, not just content explaining why it is needed. We need steps, practices, encouragement, and invitations. In Follow Is a Verb, Courtney does just that. She does not write as one who has arrived but one who is on the journey with us. This book belongs on the shelf next to Ruth Haley Barton and John Mak Comer. It is that good."

"Courtney Hirscheider's passion for teaching the habits of Jesus has been contagious for our congregation. From new Christians to shepherds, our members are growing deeper in their relationship with God and as disciple makers by applying these practices in life together."

"As a builder for many years, we had the opportunity to erect complex structural systems. When we would ask the engineer who designed a particular building how to hold it all together during construction before the final pieces came together, they would respond, 'That's means and methods! We aren't responsible for that; you are.' What Courtney has done is lead us through the 'means and methods' our Designer provides for building the life he envisions for us."
