For fifty years I dedicated my life to evangelical Christianity as a missionary, teacher, and author, only to discover I had been fundamentally mistaken. My programmed beliefs, like an addiction, had distorted my perception of God, of the world, of myself, and of others.
The traumas in my life...my mother's rape, my hurricane wipe-out, my brother's suicide, my missionary burnout...none made me question all that I had been taught and was dutifully teaching others until the unimaginable happened...the betrayal of my dearest Christian colleagues and friends.
