Eternal First Glance: Sonnets of Love's Beginning is a luminous collection of one hundred sonnets tracing the sacred journey of love-from its quiet awakening to its enduring, transformative depth.
Beginning with a single glance, these poems explore the unseen moments where connection is born: the silence before words, the recognition before understanding, the feeling before definition. From that fragile beginning, the collection unfolds across love's full landscape-longing, trust, intimacy, fracture, loss, and the quiet decision to remain.
With lyrical precision and emotional honesty, John David Smith presents love not as fleeting emotion, but as a living covenant-one that deepens through presence, matures through grace, and endures through choice. Each section builds upon the last, guiding the reader from discovery to devotion, from devotion to testing, and from testing to a love that is no longer fragile, but forged.
These sonnets honor both the beauty and the cost of loving well. They give language to what is often felt but rarely spoken-the ache of absence, the weight of memory, the healing found in return, and the quiet strength required to stay.
For those who have loved deeply, lost honestly, and still believe in something lasting, Eternal First Glance is both a mirror and a companion-a testament that even the briefest moment can echo into eternity.
