About

In a continuously evolving threat landscape, a proactive defense strategy is essential for cybersecurity systems to remain effective against active threats. Additionally, the influx of more interconnected devices has continued to expand the digital attack surface, thereby providing more potential entry points for malicious actors to exploit. This research proposed an aggressive defense approach to capture live threat data through the deployment of a honeypot, a decoy system designed to lure attackers to study their tactics and behaviors.

The main objective of this empirical study was to identify effective means of enhancing current cybersecurity systems using advanced threat detection and intelligence, as well as other proactive defense measures. Various research methodologies, including an updated literature review, live threat intelligence gathered from the deployed honeypot, and case studies of recent cyber-attacks, which explored exploited attack vectors, impacts, lessons learned, and possible mitigation strategies, were used to gather and present the data for this research, in keeping with the central research theme.

The research's data was also compared with other documented, credible research materials to confirm its validity and relevance. An analysis of the research and its findings aimed to address the primary research question and objectives, while contributing to the central body of knowledge and enhancing global threat intelligence efforts. Additionally, appropriate recommendations were also made based on the research findings, including limitations of the research and possible areas for future research in the field.
