"This high interest informational series offers young readers a full picture into the lives of familiar polar animals. Each page features a vibrant photograph and two descriptive sentences. Information about what the animals eat, where they live, how they sleep, and their daily and nightly behaviors is included, as are maps of the Arctic and Antarctic habitats. Supportive features like a labeled body map of the animal add to the text. In each book, series author Katie Marsico touches on global issues affecting these animals. Overall, this series will be of interest to young readers and would make a good update to your animal collection. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites. Table of Contents. Index. "This is a nonfiction book that explains the life of the Emperor Penguin. The emperor penguin is a bird, but it cannot fly. The female penguin lays one egg per year and the male takes care of the egg until it hatches. This book gives a description of the emperor penguin, explains where they live, what they eat and what animals hunt the emperor penguin. At the end of the book is a picture labeling the penguin body parts, a glossary, and a bibliography. The photos are colorful, the binding is good, the cost is reasonable and it is not an award book. I would add to my collection to use for instructional purposes. -Wanda T. Heath, J.E.B.
