Embark on an unforgettable journey with Eclipse: An Adventure to the Great American Eclipse-a compelling, humorous, and deeply personal nonfiction travel memoir by Bill Thorington. This insightful narrative follows the author and a small group of friends as they chase the once-in-a-lifetime event of the 2017 total solar eclipse across the American Northwest.
Set against the backdrop of scientific curiosity, spontaneous road trip planning, and the chaotic excitement of a historic celestial event, this book offers more than just an account of an eclipse. With rich storytelling, witty reflections, and real-world challenges, Thorington chronicles the group's adventure from the initial planning stages-months in advance-to navigating wildfires, overbooked towns, fuel shortages, and Murphy's Law in full effect.
Part observational comedy, part travel diary, and part scientific commentary, Eclipse delves into the quirks of human nature, the beauty of the natural world, and the cosmic wonder that draws millions to witness the brief, breathtaking moment of totality. Through a narrative full of warmth and wit, Thorington captures not just the eclipse itself, but the powerful emotional and spiritual impact it has on those who make the effort to see it.
Whether you're a skywatcher, a travel enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys a great story about real people facing real obstacles with humor and heart, this book will leave you inspired to plan your own adventure-be it under the stars or across the open road.
