Satellite data and AI techniques applied to global forest conservation
Monitoring forest biomass, carbon fluxes, and biodiversity at scale requires integrating remote sensing technology with climate policy frameworks. Earth Observation for Forest Monitoring and Climate Action, a two-volume edited collection assembled by a team of researchers in remote sensing, forestry, and agronomy, synthesizes research, technology, and policy to show how satellite-based monitoring, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing platforms are transforming forest management and climate action.
Coverage spans satellite-based monitoring fundamentals through advanced AI-driven early warning systems for deforestation and degradation. Case studies from the Amazon to boreal forests demonstrate Earth observation applications for sustainable forest management, community-based monitoring, and national forest inventories. The collection examines how observation data supports international accords including the Paris Agreement, alongside emerging topics such as open-access data ecosystems and the political ramifications of satellite surveillance.
Designed for researchers and academics in environmental studies, forestry, climate science, and remote sensing, this two-volume reference also serves policymakers, government agencies, conservation organizations, and NGOs involved in natural resource management, climate governance, and international reporting for biodiversity and forest protection frameworks.
