Dreamcatcher: A Hidden World Fairy Tale Fantasy
By Angela Grey
Tagline: What if your worst nightmares... led you to the only place you've ever truly belonged?
Twelve-year-old Dani "Dash" Ash has always lived between silence and storm. At home, her mother is lost to her own battles, her stepfather's violence shadows every day, and the world rarely makes space for girls like her. Escape becomes survival-until the night she brushes against the dreamcatcher her grandmother Agnes wove to ward off nightmares.
Instead of catching dreams, it opens a door. Dash is swept into Baumwelt, an ancient land where dreamers, misfits, and wanderers arrive through fractured portals... but few ever return.
There, she finds unexpected allies: Winona, fierce and rooted in spirit; Cheske, a boy who guards his secrets as carefully as his heart; and her two unusual companions-Charlie, a disabled dog, and Gracie, a blind cat. Together they must face dark creatures, unravel whispered mysteries, and search for the courage to walk through shadows.
Yet Baumwelt is not the only place demanding her bravery. Back in the real world, middle school brings its own monsters-bullying, judgment, and depression. With every return home, Dash discovers fragile friendships and glimpses of possibility, but also deeper wounds. Caught between two unraveling worlds, she must learn that the truest battle is not just against the creatures of Baumwelt, but within herself: a struggle to weave together her Dakota Sioux heritage, her biracial identity, and the fractured threads of her family's story.
