Fantasy characters no longer need to be daydreams. From anatomical instruction to honing the craft of visual storytelling, fantasy illustrator Tamara Osborn gives readers all the tools, tips, and tutorials they need to successfully design and draw their own characters.
Organized to optimize success, Tamara guides readers though character design essentials and anatomy fundamentals before diving into detailed tutorials on drawing individual fantasy features like horns, wings, and tails, as well as depicting different fantasy races. Races are divided into thematic chapters: the classics dear to fantasy devotees' hearts (elves, dwarves, orcs, fairies, and goblins), anthropomorphic persons (centaurs, fauns, rabbit-folk, merfolk, and lizard-folk) and cult paranormal favorites (angels and devils, vampires, werewolves, the undead, and witches and warlocks). Once readers have created their base, a chapter on Adding Character with clothing, scars and tattoos, piercings, tools and trinkets, archetypical presentations and more, helps them flush out their design. Packed full of practical tutorials and endless inspiration, this handbook is perfect for any fantasy gamer, writer, or artist looking to draft their dream cast of characters. Tamara Osborn is a character designer, fantasy illustrator, and TTRPG enthusiast. She shares all kinds of creations on her Instagram under the handle @golightlyfinch. She currently resides in Cardiff, Wales.
