On the cusp of the breakdown of the Soviet Union the Russian people looked at change. Taboo for decades, exchanges of scientists and students slowly blossomed. Dimitri, a student from central Russia, steps forward to explore this newly open world, carrying a darkness from his past. In America he meets Erin, different and yet alike. And Erin grasps at last a friend in her own alienated world.
