For history buffs and memoir fans alike, discover an epistolary account of a North Dakotan volunteer who traveled to the Philippines amid the Spanish-American War, compiled by his grandson. Enlisting to fight, a young Eugene H. Sackett entered the Spanish-American War with many others just like him. Along with his North Dakota countrymen, he ended up in the Philippines, thousands of miles away from his family and everything he knew. Eugene and his regiment suddenly became embroiled in a conflict they didn't expect. Under the command of Major General Ewell Otis, they had been sent to the Philippines to take control of the islands. The Philippine-American War had begun. In war at a time when cell phones, internet, and instant communication didn't exist, Eugene wrote letters to his folks back home about his various experiences while in the Philippines. Dear Folks At Home is a compilation of those very real letters. Perfect for history buffs, memoir enthusiasts, and lovers of less-talked-about global conflicts, Dear Folks At Home provides an in-depth look from a volunteer's perspective at the varied experiences across the world during a historic battle and insurrection.
