Dating & BPD: Survival Guide is an honest, practical, and sometimes funny look at romantic relationships when borderline personality disorder is part of the picture. Written for people with BPD and the people dating them, this guide explores the everyday moments that can become emotionally complicated: a delayed text, a change of plans, a misunderstood tone, or a request for space.
Across eighteen approachable chapters, Dating & BPD: Survival Guide examines reassurance, fear of abandonment, jealousy, intimacy, boundaries, conflict, and the work of rebuilding trust after hurt. With humor woven into recognizable dating situations, the book encourages readers to get curious about each other's experiences and communicate more clearly about what they need.
Each chapter includes suggested wording, reflection prompts, or exercises that readers can use to start conversations. Topics include separating an observable event from the meaning attached to it, checking assumptions before reacting, asking directly for connection, and taking a break from an argument with a clear plan to reconnect. The guide also explores what makes an apology meaningful-and why changed behavior matters after the conversation ends.
Both partners' needs receive attention throughout. Readers are encouraged to respect privacy, maintain friendships and independent interests, discuss consent, and build sources of support beyond the relationship. Chapters addressing professional support, emotional crises, and safety acknowledge the limits of what a romantic partner can reasonably provide.
BPD affects people differently, and this book leaves room for those differences. Its examples invite readers to learn about the individual they love, recognize their own patterns, and take responsibility for their choices.
With candid language and a sense of humor about the awkwardness of dating, Dating & BPD: Survival Guide offers a starting point for clearer expectations, more thoughtful conflict, and honest conversations about the relationship both people want to build.
