He's the smallest kid in the sixth grade. Then lightning struck, and everything changed.
Clarence "Corky" Barthed has never been picked first for anything. At 5'2" and 75 pounds soaking wet, he's the kid who gets stuffed in lockers, picked last for softball, and singled out every week by two bullies who've turned "Super Wedgie Wednesday" into a running nightmare. His older sister is on her way to a marine biology career, his brother is a future college football star, and Corky just wants to make it through sixth grade with his underwear in one piece
.
Then, during a recess softball game, a bolt of lightning hits him square in the chest. When he wakes up, something's different. The awkward kid with the thick glasses suddenly has abilities he never imagined, and for the first time, a real shot at standing up to the bullies, catching the eye of the cutest girl in class, and showing his family (and himself) that he's more than just the runt of the litter.
Funny, warm, and full of sixth-grade chaos, bullies, a science fair project, a first crush, and one seriously unlucky (or lucky) lightning strike, Corky: A Super Story is a laugh-out-loud coming-of-age tale for anyone who's ever felt like the last kid picked.
Great for young readers ages 8 to 12 who love underdog stories, humor, friendship, and the idea that even the smallest kid in the room might have something extraordinary in him.
