Technology and air superiority equals success in modern warfare. But even during the War in Afghanistan, satellite recon and smart bombs cannot replace soldiers on the ground. When a SEAL team SeaHawk helicopter goes down in the icy mountains of Kandahar, Lieutenant Lester Donovan must make a difficult decision: follow orders or go "off mission" and save his fellow soldiers. With Taliban terrorists at every turn, neither decision will be easy. He'll need his instincts and some high-tech weaponry to get off of the hillside and back to base alive!
"This series offers a glimpse into the lives of soldiers through the Donovan family which has a long military background. Control Under Fire covers Lester Donovan at war in Afghanistan, and A Time for War covers one of Lester's grandfather's brothers in World War II. Other books in the series cover his father in Vietnam and his grandfather in the Korean War. With descriptive detail, the reader is swept into the world of war. The images of soldiers trying to escape gunfire and scared to death are vivid reminders of the realities of war. Debriefing sections show pictures of military personnel and equipment with detailed descriptions of each. Comic-book style illustrations are appealing. A family tree is included. . . .These book swill appeal to those fascinated by war, yet rather than glorifying it, they offer the reality. Recommended."
