Those of us who are members of God's family-citizens of his kingdom-long to be formed as a people who bear his name with fidelity. We have Jesus-God in flesh-to train us in that direction.
In Companion Planted, Rick Shafer invites readers to see discipleship first as a belonging that then manifests in our behaviors. Using an image of three trees, planted together, the author envisions growth that's both immersive and gradual, personal and cooperative, demanding and forbearing, internal and expressive. Each tree has a depth. And out of that depth, each tree produces fruit.
As "a disciple's orientation to their discipleship", this book acquaints readers with some of Scripture's major themes so that we might flourish in a shared culture and story with other saints and our God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
