In the rain-slicked, neon-drenched canyons of Neo-Tokyo, the only way out is to win. For Kira, a down-on-her-luck street racer and brilliant mechanic, that means surviving the God Circuit-a series of illegal, high-stakes races where the cars are as beautiful as they are deadly. Crushed by debt to the Yakuza and haunted by the disappearance of her parents, her only asset is The Oniyuri, a custom car that seems to possess a mind of its own. Desperate for a score, she enters a race that will change her life forever.During the race, she is saved by the enigmatic and infuriatingly skilled Daemon, a rival who races with a chaotic, unpredictable grace. When Kira pushes her car past its limits and snatches victory, she discovers the circuit's impossible secret. The loser's car dissolves into pure energy and is absorbed into her own, and a glowing symbol of a hammer burns itself onto her arm. She is no longer just a racer; she has become a host for the divine power of a thunder god. This newfound power makes her a target. She is immediately hunted by the Hunters of Yamata Corporation, a seemingly legitimate mega-corp that polices the city with an iron fist. Forced into an uneasy alliance with Daemon-who reveals himself to be the host of a trickster god-Kira is dragged into a hidden world where mythological entities are real and their power is the ultimate commodity. As their fiery rivalry deepens into a volatile romance, they uncover Yamata's horrifying endgame: Project Valhalla, a program to capture empowered racers, harvest their divine essence, and allow their CEO to achieve digital immortality.
