Modern cheerleading is so much more than shaking pompoms and cheers of "Gimme a C"! Although that kind of traditional cheerleading is still going strong, where cheerleading squads primarily support other athletic teams, today's cheerleaders also form their own athletic teams. Competitive cheerleading takes the activity to the next level, adding the elements of complex acrobatics, lifts and tumbling that makes it exciting and high risk. Flyers, the girls who are tossed up to 20 feet in the air before twisting and flipping on their way back down, are the celebrities of competitive cheer. These dynamic athletes are fearless and driven when the time comes to compete. Every book in the Preparing for Game Day series provides tips from the sport's top players and coaches on how to physically and mentally prepare for your favorite sport. Each title also provides a rundown of the steps you should take to be at your optimal level when it is time to compete. Each title in this series includes color photos throughout, and back matter including: an index and further reading lists for books and internet resources. Key Icons appear throughout the books in this series in an effort to encourage library readers to build knowledge, gain awareness, explore possibilities and expand their viewpoints through our content rich non-fiction books. Educational Videos are offered in chapters through the use of a QR code, that, when scanned, takes the student to an online video showing an instructional or inspirational video relating to the context of the chapter. Research Projects are provided at the end of each chapter as well and provide readers with suggestions for projects that encourage deeper research and analysis.
