Why a fictional memoir and why the arcane language? ... to tell a story about a youth who is mentally a pre-teenager while physically developing as an adult? Because the works I admire most seem to fall into that literary genre: Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Lawrence Durrell, and more recent writings like Robert Pirsigs Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and like Dave Eggers A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. And because the youth, Vaney, expressed himself in arcane phrases like mama gift it to me and meaningful body language as well as mysterious seizures. Finally, why self-publish? Because the publishing industry may not yet be ready for major changes as it was unready for Proust, Joyce and others.
