Caste

Set in India, William Alexander Fraser's novel 'Caste' follows the story of Dandhu Panth, the adopted son of the Peshwa, who has returned from Oxford as an Englishman, Nana Sahib. Though outwardly a well-dressed gentleman, Nana Sahib dreams of ruling India. He schemes with the Mahrattas, who are plotting the overthrow of the British. The British resident at Poona, Hodson, is the only one who has misgivings about Nana Sahib, but when a new danger appears, he sends Captain Barlow to consult with him.
