A breakthrough financial and career philosophy tailored to the unique needs of Black professionals, by the power couple behind the blog Rich and Regular.
To achieve financial freedom, most of us are told to follow the same script: work hard, make money, save, and invest. Sounds simple, right? Yet despite putting in twice the effort, you end up making less than your White colleagues and are routinely passed up for career opportunities, all while navigating microaggressions in the workplace, racist hiring practices, and skewed wages. It's almost as if the corporate ladder is rigged against Black Americans-and you'd be right.
The truth is, you'll never win the wealth game playing by corporate America's rules. To win, you have to walk away-and take up an entirely new model. In Cashing Out, Julien and Kiersten Saunders re-write the rules for achieving financial freedom outside the broken system. Rejecting the standard that tells you to relentlessly sacrifice your time and mental health to maximize income, they show you how to quit your 9 to 5 and design a life that allows you to enjoy the little things now while setting yourself up for future financial security.
Along the way, you'll learn the mindset shifts required to take the leap, starting with rejecting the mantra and glitz of "Black excellence" and embracing the proven sustainability of "stealth wealth." And you'll acquire practical strategies for making the most of your money, including how to:
• Set up a side gig that maximizes your skills without robbing you of time and energy you don't have
• Prioritize the right goals each stage of your career so you can quit in under 15 years
• Create an investment portfolio specifically designed to free up time
• Talk to your partner about money without arguing
You no longer have to be a cog in the machine that doesn't serve you. Cashing Out shows you how to open the door to a new kind of prosperity-both for yourself and for Black America.
