Emperor Visros rules by the Divine Light of the Twelve. He is descended from Ruros, God of the Gods and his Light guides the Empire. It is his Divine right.
Margaery Sanclairova has also been blessed by the Light, with the power to heal by her touch. Her very existence threatens the Emperor's claim to the throne.
Now, the Academy of Medical Sciences is accepting women for the first time in history and Margaery is determined to use her Light to help others. Even if it means living in the shadow of the people who executed her mother.
Margaery soon begins untangling the web of lies and secrets surrounding her mother's death, lies that lead her to question everything.
And in the Empire of Varsay, questions will get you killed.
