"I was sitting alone on that porch, drinking and crying under the dim kitchen light for this. For presence. For gratitude. For a life that feels manageable."
What do you do when your life feels like a storm you cannot escape? For Sunshine, the battle was not just with the world. It was within her own mind. In Burning Bright, Sunshine shares a raw, unflinching, and ultimately triumphant account of navigating the turbulent waters of bipolar disorder and the grueling path to sobriety.
From the "Rage Rooms Without Walls" and the darkness of "Drives in the Dark" to the clarity found in "Kayaks and Quiet Wins," this memoir takes you through the heart of a mental health crisis and out the other side. It is a story for anyone who has ever felt "cuffed and stuffed" by their own circumstances. It proves that a heavy past does not have to ruin a bright future.
In these pages, you will discover:
• The Reality of the Dual Diagnosis: An honest look at the intersection of alcohol addiction and bipolar disorder. • The Turning Point: The moments of thin diagnoses and the breaking points that lead to choosing recovery. • The Path to Peace: How simple joys, like the tap of water on a paddleboard or the salt air in your lungs, become the foundation for a sober and purpose-filled life. Burning Bright is more than a memoir; it is a lifeline. It is a warm and steady reminder that you can survive your darkest moments, heal wounds you thought would stay open forever, and finally feel at home in your own skin.
