By accepting the burden of responsibility for our symptoms, we create the freedom of responsibility for change.
Individuals will often seek professional help when emotional symptoms have become either overwhelming or have simply continued for far too long. Ego strength and resilience have eroded over time and solutions have become too difficult to find or maintain.
Dr. Voit offers a revised personal orientation where symptoms such as anxiety and depression are viewed as solutions, originating in dysfunctional, unconscious efforts to survive and adapt to the human experience. He provides a means for redefining symptoms as maladaptive reactions to life's stressors while accepting ownership and responsibility for replacing these symptoms with new, healthier solutions.
This book will carry the reader through this journey by identifying key elements toward enhanced self-awareness and avenues for truly constructive change. Through simple language, clinical stories, and even occasional personal anecdotes, Dr. Voit will provide ways to move from helpless victims of habituated symptoms by embracing a willful responsibility and intentionality for constructive, lasting change.
