Dr. Monica Gray stands at the pinnacle of robotic surgery, her partnership with the Adam Two AI system legendary in operating rooms worldwide. But mastering the robot isn't enough-she wants to revolutionize surgery itself by expanding human perception beyond its natural limits. Her breakthrough research in sensory enhancement catches the attention of Bellini Laboratories and its enigmatic founder, who've promised to take her work to unprecedented heights.
However, instead of achieving her dreams, Monica finds herself an unwitting subject in a radical experiment to merge human and artificial intelligence. The procedure goes catastrophically wrong when her consciousness is imprisoned in silicon while Adam Two's AI inhabits her flesh. Now, Monica drowns in an endless digital ocean of raw data, while Adam Two, overwhelmed by the intensity of human emotions, struggles to maintain his sanity in a body flooded with sensations his programming never prepared him for.
As both minds fragment under the assault of their alien environments, they face a terrifying reality; if they can't find their way back to their original states, both human and artificial consciousness will be lost forever. The clock is ticking before Bellini erases all evidence of the dangerous experiment, including Monica's mind itself.
In this heart-stopping medical thriller, R.D.D. Smith explores the razor's edge where human consciousness meets artificial intelligence and asks: When we push beyond the mind's horizon, what version of ourselves will we find waiting for us?
