How do journeys across borders transform not only individuals but also the communities they become part of?
Between Two Skies: True Stories of the Indian Diaspora in Australia brings together 19 deeply personal stories of Indians who have built lives in Australia across generations. Drawn from direct conversations, these accounts span very different eras, backgrounds, professions, and experiences, offering a rich and varied portrait of what it means to make a home in a country far from where one began. Some stories speak to hardship and perseverance; others to opportunity, reinvention, and the freedom to forge new paths. Together, they reveal the many ways migrants adapt to their new surroundings while carrying forward languages, traditions, values, memories, and connections to the places they left behind.
More than a collection of migration stories, Between Two Skies is a portrait of a community in the making and of the people who have helped shape Australian society in ways both visible and quietly enduring. It offers a nuanced account of the Indian diaspora in Australia: its histories, aspirations, contradictions, and contributions, and the continually evolving meaning of home when life is lived between two cultures.
