Before the red suit, the sleigh, and the legendary name, there was Nicholas. Nicholas was a man of wealth and privilege, but he could not ignore the suffering he saw around him. He wanted to help-but he soon discovered that sometimes the kindest gifts were the ones given quietly, without recognition or reward. So Nicholas began giving in secret. When too many questions were raised, he traveled north to protect that secret. His journey carried him through unfamiliar lands, where he met a remarkable people whose skill at making matched his own need to give. Together, they discovered they could do so much more. Warmly illustrated and written for younger children and families to share aloud, Before He Was Santa: The Story of Nicholas is a story about kindness, generosity, working together, and the man behind one of the most famous names in the world.
