The Major Stage Adaptation of Ian McEwan’s Acclaimed Novel.
Beautifully adapted by Christopher Hampton, who previously adapted the novel for the 2007 film.
How old do you have to be before you know the difference between right and wrong? What are you now, eighteen? There are soldiers of eighteen old enough to be left to die on the side of the road. Did you know that?
On an English country estate, in the blazing hot summer of 1935, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis witnesses an incident she cannot understand between her sister Cecilia and Robbie, their housekeeper's son. With a disastrous and confused desire for drama, Briony makes an accusation that will fatally alter Cecilia and Robbie's lives: an act for which she will spend the rest of her life trying to atone.
