About
Grote's Aristotle was to remain unfinished at his death, and the first edition was published under the editorship of Alexander Bain and G. Croom Robertson a year later. The second edition, reprinted here in two volumes, was published in 1880 with the addition of two important essays on the Ethics and the Politics of Aristotle, the material for which was discovered among Grote's papers. To the chapters on the life of Aristotle, the Aristotelian canon and a critical study of the logical treatises, the editors added a section on De Anima, originally published in Bain's Senses and Intellect (1868). The Appendix contains four papers reprinted from Bain's Mental and Moral Science (1868). These writings were collated by the editors from Grote's notes and references.
