About

A brash American frontiersman ... a prim heiress desperate to avoid scandal. Their marriage of convenience will keep you laughing as it warms your heart. When he travels to England to carry out his Ma's dying wish, Ned Prentice, American explorer, collector of curiosities, and traveling Medicine Show proprietor finds himself hailed as the heir to an earldom who was stolen away in his infancy. There's only one catch. To be recognized as the lost heir, Ned must immediately marry Kate Haddock, the daughter of an upstart magnate whose dowry is needed to preserve the Earldom's mortgaged acres. But Kate has only agreed to a marriage of convenience with the earl's heir to ensure that she will have the freedom to pursue her scientific interests. She has no intention of being bound for life to the all-too-charming backwoodsman she has good reason to believe is a clever fraud.Pressured by Kate's father and the earl to go through with the wedding, Kate and Ned form an uneasy alliance intended to maintain each other's freedom-until the pet baby beaver Ned has brought to England plays matchmaker and Ned and Kate must discover what is real, what is trickery, and what are the true desires of their hearts. This version has been rewritten and improved since its first publication in 2019.Rated PG-13. No explicit content. Jenny Brown studied history in graduate school. Her first professional sale as a writer was a biographical piece about Louisa May Alcott's childhood. Years later, her favorite hobby continues to be reading biographies of people who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries. She has earned her living in many different ways including performing as a singer-songwriter in Nashville, developing software, and publishing acclaimed nonfiction. She lives in rural Western Massachusetts.Jenny's characters are often outcasts or rebels. Her heroes have a long way to go before they become the loving men her heroines deserve. Her heroines are strong, adventurous women who take control of their own fate but must do so within the limitations of the society into which they were born. Readers of mainstream historical fiction appreciate that her books are written with respect for the language, history, and culture of the Georgian era in England in which they are set.
